Welcome to Jazz Club

I must admit I don’t know too much about jazz. Jazz was born around the turn of the 20th century in the USA. After the abolition of slavery, Africans were able to play in bars, clubs and brothels. Ragtime developed, especially in New Orleans, and from this came jazz. Typical instruments used in jazz include trumpets, saxophones, trombones, pianos, guitars, double bass and drums. The jazz scene grew and became very popular in the 1920’s and 30’s and spawned many subgenres such as swing and bebop. Bebop is a style of improvised jazz and gets its name from the sounds people make as they sing it. Acid jazz developed in the late 80’s and had a big influence on trip hop bands such as Portishead and funkier artists like Jamiroquai.
