Blues Rock Bliss – Fran’s Review

Dave has described Blues Rock as ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll plus sex’, and that is exactly what The Rolling Stones by the Rolling Stones sounds like. On this record the band gives tracks from the Rhythm and Blues movement of the USA a fresh sound, that quickly established them as England’s Newest Hit Makers (which was the title of this album in the US).

The tracks on The Rolling Stones can sometimes sound a bit simple and repetitive (for example Mona), but on the whole this is an upbeat and listenable album. On I’m a King Bee, the Rolling Stones’ self-assured style has a fabulously rebellious undertone to it, and their energetic version of I Just Want To Make Love To You breathes life into the blues song.

I will definitely be listening to more Rolling Stones in the future.
