Funky Time

Another Monday Tuesday, another genre, and this week the Music Tree decrees we shall listen to Funk. This is fine by me, so with no further ado I will introduce our Funk album of the week: Sex Machine by James Brown. Sex Machine is a monster of a double album released in 1970, when the Godfather of Soul‘s career was in full swing. James Brown was a pioneer of the Funk sound, and this album features a wealth of the most notable musicians of the genre. It is an odd mix of studio and live recordings, but extra reverberation and audience noise have been added to the studio recordings… for some reason. Happy Listening!

Each week Fran and Dave explore a new genre from the Music Tree by choosing an album to represent it. We write about the genre or artist during the week, and post our reviews on Sunday. Want to join the musical adventure? Listen along with our Spotify playlist, and subscribe by clicking the link in the sidebar to get an email every time there’s a new post.
